Level 1 cert question

Hi All,
new here. My daughter and I fly A and C motor hobby rockets in Anderson just as something fun for us to do on random days. I’m looking to join the club so we can come and participate in some launches (and maybe get her away from watching dozens of launch videos on YouTube). I just have a couple of questions
1) I’d like to start working through my certifications so we can build bigger rockets together. For Level 1, do I just show up and let someone know I’d like to do a cert launch? Or do I need to schedule in advance?
2) are there any open to public fields around here that she and I can continue launching our small rockets from? The schools football field works well enough for random launches, but we lost one in a tree last year and she was upset (she’s 5 in September)
This kid loves rockets, but it’s not always easy to get her to a once a month scheduled launch event.

Welcome!
For Level 1, you need to inform us. You'll also need the NAR paperwork. We usually, but not always, have a vendor at our launch (Merlin Missiles). You can then get a motor from him to use with your cert. He, along with several other 'regulars' can watch your flight and help with the paperwork. See our launch schedule for when we launch at the AMA field in Muncie, site 1.
Also, another family friendly club is AMOREA that launches once a month at the Lawrence city park (Indy) near Ft Harrison SP. It's good for low power rockets.
Hope to see you at one or more of these launches.

Also, come to our launches as there are folks there happy to talk about certification and rocket topics.

Thank you! We just finished building our Apogee Zephyr tonight. I’m selecting a motor this week for L1 cert. I’ll definitely come to the launch in Muncie on the 18th even if I can’t launch for one reason or another. Unfortunately, that is the one weekend this month my daughter goes to visit her mom and I don’t know that I want to launch without her to watch. I built it for her and it’s kind of a thing we do together.
When I do know I’m ready to schedule an L1 cert, how do I inform you?

Lots of folks have certified L1 with the Zephyr. I'd recommend you come and meet some of the folks and talk with our vendor (and others) about motors. You may be able to get one even for a future cert launch that you can do with your daughter. You're welcome to join us for our monthly Zoom meetings that we usually have a couple of days before our launches and that can help you with your questions. May 16th is our next one. BTW....really check your recovery system on your Zephyr as most cert failures are due to recovery issues. Hope to see you on Zoom and/or at our May launch!
