I have done it the last 2 years. The NAR has sent me the charter information and I just confirm it. The insurance is a little more involved and I'm sure they'll send it to me again this year. I'll transition all those things over to you as they come in.

I wont be able to be there.
We need to elect new leadership (president, vice, etc) As much as I've enjoyed doing it for the last 2 years, I wont be able to this year. I'd like to nominate Rob as president for the next year. I think his enthusiasm and energy is something the club needs.
I have filed the FAA waiver, just waiting to hear back from them. It normally takes about 45 days or so and once I heard word, I'll let everyone know.

The key is in the controller and the paperwork folder with the waiver is also in the trailer.
Someone who is planning on being at the launch needs to call the FAA and get the NOTAM issued ASAP. It needs to be done no less than 24 hours before the launch.

I apologize for not being at the meeting on Tuesday. Work had an issue and I didn't get to leave until after the meeting was over.
I will not be able to make it to the launch this weekend. I will put the launch controller key into the launch controller tonight so that it will be available for the weekend. Someone will need to take the trailer up and back and someone will need to call the FAA to file a NOTAM. I have the procedures for calling the FAA and activating the waiver for whoever is going to do it.
Hope you all have fun and launch a few for me. The weekend looks dry and not too windy. Might be a nice launch.

I don't have one now but I can take a 4" nose cone that I have for a scratch project and add the adjustable weight system to it. Might have it ready for the meeting, depending on what else in life is going on.

One thing to remember when using rail guides rather than rail buttons is that the two guides MUST be in perfect alignment with each other or the rocket will bind on the rail and go nowhere fast. I use a section of 1" wide aluminum angle-iron (90°) from Lowes (or Home Depot, etc) to ensure that they're in the same plane and perfectly aligned with each other. Just lay it on the body tube so the two edges of the angle-iron form an inverted V on the tube and use that as a guide when installing.

So, the desired CG is 29" from the nose, they made it easy on you I would build the rocket as designed with the threaded rod modification in the nose. Once everything is ready (fully loaded with motor, recovery "stuff", etc) I would add washers until the rocket balanced at 29" from the nose. The only time you'd need to adjust the weight is if you changed motor sizes (up or down).

Hawk Missile Nose Weight Question

Does the kit instructions give a desired center of gravity(CG)? If so, you add weight to the nose until it balances at that point. If not, you'll have to find the center of pressure(CP) and then find where you'd want the ideal center of gravity compared to the center of pressure. You want the CG to be one caliber ahead of the CP. (1 caliber = 1 body tube width) On a 4" body tube based kit, you'd want the CG to be at least 4" ahead (towards the nose) of the CP. If the kit doesn't specify the CP, you can find it by entering the kit into RockSim (or similar simulator program)
As for the type of nose weight... I have some lead shot that you can have(I have 5 or 6 pounds worth). You would epoxy it into the nose after roughing the inside of the nose up with sandpaper. Fill the nose with 2-part foam to lock everything in place and then the bulkhead gets epoxied in place. As an alternative, you can epoxy a section of threaded rod into the nose, add fender washers and a nut to get your desired weight and if the rod is long enough, you then install the bulkhead over the rod and use a washer/nut combo to lock it in place. By using the rod with washers, you have the ability to adjust the nose weight so that you can fly it on a wider range of motors. (i.e. a small 38mm versus a large 54mm)

PVC is like a plastic in our case. If you're gluing plastic fins to it, you can use PVC solvent and the fins will weld to the PVC. If you're using wood (balsa, basswood, plywood, etc) or composite (fiberglass, carbon fiber, etc) then you'll need to rough up both the PVC and the fin material pretty good (60 grit) and use epoxy. If you included milled/chopped fiberglass in the epoxy, it would hold better. If possible, I would go through-the-wall also to give it even more holding strength.

I can take the trailer up tonight, leave it for the weekend and bring it back on Monday. That still leaves someone to handle the FAA waiver. The deadline for contacting the FAA for the waiver is 10AM tomorrow (friday) and if no one is willing/able to do it, then we'll have to cancel.

Never mind about not making it to tonight's meeting...it is actually next week. This is the first time in a long time that the meeting is actually after the launch. We will still need someone to handle the waiver and the trailer thought. I can provide details to whoever can do it.

I will not be able to make it to tonight's meeting or the launch this weekend (Oct. 17) Someone will need to handle the waiver (I can provide details) and transporting the trailer to the AMA and back. Ideally either Monty or Terry should handle the waiver as they're named on the waiver but it can be anyone that is willing to be there the entire HPR window and have a cell phone for the FAA to call if needed.

There will be a launch and the normal K motor restriction will be in place. There could be more restrictions based on the launch site conditions (dry, wet, windy, etc) Team Ohio Rocketry says they'll be there with CTI motors and you can contact them for AT motors as well.

I built the LOC 5.5" V2. It can be launched on any higher power H and any I motor. I launched mine on an I357 and it went about 2500' If you were to go with an H180W with the 6 second delay, you should get somewhere near 1000' to 1500' I don't think I'd launch it on a H motor smaller that an H180 because of all the nose weight that has to be added to make it stable.
